The objects of the Association are: |
a) |
To provide social advice to Irish immigrants regarding their rights and available services, in order to assist them to make a smooth transition into Australian society. |
b) |
To provide assistance to Irish people in detention, and their families. |
c) |
To offer assistance regarding housing and accommodation. |
d) |
To advise and assist with unemployment issues and employment procedures/rights. |
e) |
To offer assistance and visitations to people in hospitals and Nursing Homes. |
f) |
To assist isolated, widowed or bereaved families. |
g) |
To provide contact and assistance to inmates and families of those in jails, during or on release. |
h) |
To attend and service any other charitable needs of individuals and community groups within the Irish community in Australia. |
October 1996 the IAWB purchased burial plots at Rookwood Cemetery which are used for the needy in the Irish Community. |
The IAWB now own 24 burial Plots in St Patrick’s lawn cemetery in Rookwood. |
To date 23 people are interred there. |
These 23 men were born in various counties in Ireland and lived in Australia for many years. |
Every November the IAWB organize the celebration of Mass in the Sacred Heart Chapel in Rookwood for the deceased members of the Irish community. Following the Mass rosary is recited at the grave sites. |
